Rosemary

Rosemary was part of the "Marseilles Vinegar" or "Four Thieves Vinegar" that bandits who robbed the dead and dying used to protect themselves during the 15th century plague. Since the time of ancient Greece, Rosemary was burned as incense. Later cultures believed that it warded off devils, a practice that eventually was adopted by the sick, who then burned Rosemary to protect against infection. No wonder Rosemary is a key oil in our Thieves blend!

Rosemary is a fantastic detoxifier and supports our body in digestion, helping relieve flatulence, constipation, and bloating. It is also supportive of our liver health (enhances bile flow and reduces plasma liver enzymes), the body's normal inflammatory response, our circulatory system, and respiratory systems. It has been shown to boost nerve growth factor and support the healing of neurological tissue and brain function.

Rosemary is well known for its support in hair care and though not used as often in skin care, it's wonderful for the skin. It's a key oil in our "Mermaid Spray" for healthy hair (along with Cedarwood and Lavender) because it stimulates follicles to make hair grow longer and stronger, helps slow hair premature hair loss and graying of the hair! It is also great for the scalp, reducing dandruff. For the skin, Rosemary is beneficial in helping alleviate eczema, dermatitis, oily skin, and acne. It also helps in toning the skin and removing dryness. When added to your moisturizer, it can also give your skin a healthy, even glow.

Another great benefit of Rosemary is its pain reducing qualities! It has been used extensively for headaches, muscle pains, rheumatism, and even arthritis. It also stimulates blood circulation, which can aid in pain reduction and coagulation of wounds for faster healing.

Inhaling Rosemary's woody, herbaceous aroma provides us with a wonderful fragrant influence helping us overcome mental fatigue, stimulate memory, open the conscious mind, and improve mental clarity and focus. No wonder it is found in our Clarity blend! University of Miami scientists found that inhaling rosemary boosted alertness, eased anxiety, and amplified analytic and mental ability.

Rosemary combines well with basil, bergamot, black pepper, cedarwood, clary sage, cypress, eucalyptus, frankincense, geranium, lavender, lemon, marjoram, orange, oregano, palmarosa, peppermint, pine, ravintsara, sage, tangerine, tea tree, and thyme.
