Oregano

Oregano, also called “Delight of the Mountains,” has been used for over 2500 years. It has four main unique and specific benefits: antifungal, anti-bacterial, anti-parasitic, antioxidant. Oregano has a strong, herbaceous, warm, spicy aroma. It also has sedative and anti-inflammatory properties which helps to calm down hyper-reactions in the body towards external stimuli, which can reduce the severity of a reaction to the body’s reaction to external stimuli.

Oregano has been proven in scientific studies to kill off Candida. It has been shown to kill off bad bacteria and viruses in your system. Because it only goes after the bad invaders, it does NOT have an inhibitory effect on the healthy, necessary flora in your intestines and stomach. Oregano essential oil stimulates the production and function of white blood cells, the body’s main line of defense. It is also great at combating many types of parasites in and outside the human body. Oregano oil can act as an expectorant and sooth inflamed lungs and the throat, supporting the respiratory system.

Oregano is highly celebrated for its powerful anti-oxidant properties because it protects you from damages done to the body by free radicals (oxidants), and it neutralizes the free radicals, while repairing the damage already done. This slows down the aging process. More specifically, oregano essential oil contains phenols, a powerful form of antioxidant that literally scours the body and eliminates those free radicals that cause disease.

Many have had success using oregano to help expel excess gas, remove warts and skin tags, relieve menstrual discomfort, encourage a general feeling of well-being, and promote a sense of security. Oregano is one of the oils used in the Raindrop technique.

Oregano pairs well with bergamot, cedarwood, cinnamon, chamomile (German and Roman), clove, cypress, eucalyptus, frankincense, ginger, lavender, lemon, marjoram, myrrh, orange, pine, rosemary, tea tree, and thyme.

CAUTION: Because it is considered a hot oil and is so spicy, it is highly recommended for most people to dilute with a carrier oil. This oil is high in phenols and may irritate the nasal membranes if inhaled directly from the bottle or when applied neat (without a carrier oil).
